What's Flying: Summer 2015

It's been awhile since we've posted a "What's Flying" update here on MOSI Outside, so here's a look at what we're seeing in the gardens and Backwoods this summer. It's been a great year for butterflies in general, although the 10 days of non-stop rain at the end of July and into early August made for a rough few days. However, whenever the rains stopped, the gardens were consistently full of butterflies, and the wide variety of species reflects a pretty healthy ecosystem.

  1. I`ve had a lot of butterflies this summer, guess it is because the catbirds went elsewhere to nest as well as the brown thrashers, the butterflies haven`t been consumed by the birds. The joe pye weed spread & spread & they love that plant. I need to ID them all now as I`ve forgotten some of their names, thanks for sharing, phyllis
