Busy Days

This is an extraordinarily busy week in the gardens, as we embark on some major grounds cleanup to look our very best when Mummies of the World – The Exhibition opens at the museum on Friday. We’ve been clearing the spring growth of weeds, laying and pinning weed cloth, mulching, and adding some extra plants throughout the Historic Tree Grove. Here’s what we accomplished on Monday alone (you can’t see the weed cloth, but I promise it’s there):

That’s the south entrance to the Tree Grove. We forgot to take “before” pictures, of course, but we think the “after” pictures look pretty good.

Today, we’ve been working on the east side of the grove, and had some more amazing accomplishments. Never underestimate the power of two women and some wheelbarrows!

P.S. Don’t worry… we’re not neglecting the butterflies. The Tree Grove is full of them, with an especially high number of Spicebush Swallowtails, and the Flight Encounter is also well-stocked. These sleepy little Zebra Longwings were my first sight when I went in to do some watering this morning:
